The Label
The house of Nina Ricci was founded by Turin-born Maria “Nina” Ricci and her son Robert in Paris in 1932 and rapidly expanded for the next few decades thanks to the refined, romantic, always feminine aesthetic of Maria. In 1948, Robert created a bit of beauty history by introducing the now iconic L’Air du Temps fragrance, which continues to be a top seller today. The house reached such notoriety that Andy Warhol once designed its window displays. Today, the label enjoys worldwide popularity and includes covetable lingerie.
The Look
Airy romance in layers of chiffon and sprinkles of jewels.
The Designer
The label changed design hands for decades, but in 2003 Lars Nilsson took over with varying degrees of critical success. He resigned suddenly in early 2006, and in September of the same year, the house announced that Brussels-born fashion darling Olivier Theyskens—whose home at Rochas was suddenly shuttered earlier this year—would succeed, hopefully to translate his talent into the Ricci label.
